Canine cancer affects some breeds more than others.
Dog breeds most likely to get cancer and the type of cancer they are most susceptible to:
Bernese Mountain Dog - histiocytic sarcoma (soft tissue)

At the turn of the century cancer deaths were around 1 in 10,000 for humans. When eating scraps from
dinner table and before commercial dog foods & mass vaccinations, dogs used to live to their late teens and early 20's. Depending on what
statistics are used today, women have a 1 in 3 chance of acquiring cancer in their life time and men are 1 in 4. The absurd "war on cancer"
is really about generating millions of dollars for the phamaceutical companies and the cancer industry, it clearly has done nothing to improve the odds.
What has changed is the quality of our soil, the quality of our foods with the synthetic adulteration, the overwhelming environmental pollution, electromagnetic
pollution, wireless pollution, synthetic drugs, synethtic fabrics, many common household goods are unhealthy...it would be easy to name hundreds of the hazards
associated with a modern lifestyle from every electronic gadget, to cell phones, to synthetic detergents, air fresheners, mercury laden vaccinations or even
mercury laden High Fructose Corn Syrup, to Aspartame, to dead dogs & cats marketed as meat by products or animal digest in our animals commercial dog foods,
the toxins in our skin care, shampoos, soaps etc. etc. etc.. No matter what we each believe to be contributory to these explosive cancer rates, there
are many small changes that we can each make about the things that we do include in our life and the things we exclude from the lives of our animals and our families
that will help improve our odds and make us more comfortable.
Spy's Story
Spyder came to Happy Tails when he was 7 years old, surrendered by his owner after she started having children,
fearing that Spy might do something. Spy had spent much of his life before Happy Tails living in a crate or banished to the garage, alone and craving company.
He was available for adoption, but not one person expressed any interest in this exceptional boy who even knew how to herd sheep! Man did they lose
out on a wonderful dog!
The pooches we invite into our home aren't cherry picked, they are often the troubled, sick, starving, abused or “unadoptable”.....we normally have from
7 – 10 Rotts inside with us and sometimes they all get along and sometimes, we do things in shifts, as any multiple pooch or specie home can identify with. When we
lost a Rotti senior in January 2008, we invited SpyderMan to live inside with us, he was the next senior in line. What a great choice we made, this guy is truly
family oriented. He has to check on everyone during the day and before going to bed at night, to ensure that everyone is OK and where they are supposed to be. He also
carefully inspects any packages we bring into the car or home, looking for any irregularities or things that he wouldn't approve of. Spy likes things to be orderly and in their place.
This boy is perfect, way more obedient than we require, affectionate, intelligent, compassionate and silly. Nothing pleases him more than rolling in
fresh snow or fresh green grass. His technique is unique, while rolling on his back and kicking his hind legs, he can scrunch along using his neck for
leverage and cover quite a bit of territory. Then he gets up runs a few more feet, throws himself down on the opposite side for attention and scrunches
along some more! All our Rotts join in Howling Sessions, but Spy is the Paw-Va-Rotti of the group, he has high notes, low notes, long tones, loud roars, soft
soul filled hums, EEEEEEEEEEES, Ahhhhhhhhhhhhs, Oooooooooooohs, Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmms, yips, yaps with smooth, melodious transitions and is clearly singing!
Spy's turned 10 years old on Dec 10, 2008! What energy, exuberance and joy he showed for everything. It's always a great sign when a 10 year old still shows such stamina & flair
for running, jumping, rolling and enjoying life. We were stunned when, in mid March of this year, Spy suddenly started making congestion sounds as if he had a horrible sinus infection; then within
a period of a week, a large mass quickly developed on his upper jaw. Then the blood and mucus from his nose and mouth started, and there was a lot of it! The swelling and deformity pushed
Spy's left eye up to a very uncomfortable position and it too was oozing mucus. The two halves of his head looked like they belonged to different animals.
Our vet confirmed that Spy has 3 oral tumors, the lab wasn't able to identify them. We scheduled surgery for 2 April, 2009, but by the end of March Spy's condition was
deteriorating, since he hadn't been able to ate solid foods for several days he was getting weaker. His spirit was still strong and his desire to be with us even greater.
We had been using a turkey baster filled with raw goat milk, Honest Kitchen, some raw honey & sea salt to help sustain him. He was rejecting his usual favorites of raw grass fed bison, chicken, eggs or any
of his usual favorite fruits & veggies.....
Our vet approved of the medicinal mushrooms, herbal tinctures, bio magnetics, micro current electrical zapping & Light Therapy that we had started giving to Spy ....our goal was to stop or
slow the blood supply to the tumors. There are no magic mushrooms, herbs or pharmaceuticals. Conventional medicine was without options and approved of our efforts.
In discussing the limited options with our vet, the only one we could consider was for surgery to debulk the tumor.....thus buying time. On April 1, Spy was taken to the vets for fluids,
amino acids, vitamins & other IV fluids to see if we could get him stable enough for surgery, we were warned that he may not be able to survive the anesthesia... or the surgery. This was a
horrible feeling of damned if we did or damned if we didn't. To do nothing and leave him in his current condition was unthinkable, to risk that he may not survive the surgery wasn't a pleasant
thought either and leaving this home boy at a vet's overnight was heart wrenching, although I'm sure many have done it before us.
Our vet treats large animals, cattle & horses and he and his staff hold no bias against Rotts, they don't even "clear the waiting room" .. They have always remarked on how sweet and gentle they are and
present no trouble to handle. Spy wasn't pronounced the best surgical candidate but we took the chance that he'd be no worse off and might be a little stronger and have a chance to eat sometime
after the surgery. We waited with baited breath until our vet confirmed that Spyder DID make it through the surgery and he was resting with his front paws comfortably crossed in the inimitable Rotti
trademark contemplative position!
The vet was impressed how little blood was in the tumor, it surprised him and he said that the tumor almost literally fell off in his hand, the 3 tumors had merged together and were the size of a large tangerine.
Since the vet has no more options beyond this surgery, and the lab had already not identified the mass, we elected not to have a tissue biopsy!
Spy was considerably stronger when we picked him up the same day of his surgery, and minus the mass, his face appeared almost normal with some puffiness around his eye.
He walked out of the vet's office and without coaxing or even a running start JUMPED into the back of the Suburban, needing only a tiny boost. Not bad considering that just 24 hours earlier we carried him in a crate! He had
undergone IV fluids and a surgery that same day and the only thing on this boy's mind was that his humans had come from him and he was going HOME. We brought a Rotti friend to make the ride home with him!
This was a huge victory for Spy, now the rest of the battle is up to Spy's body to heal itself. He needs to continue gaining strength so his immune system can keep further tumors at bay. We provide the best
possible completely natural environment and will continue with the same routine, with our vet's endorsement, and hope that Spy will enjoy more rolls in the grass or snow!
The first day after surgery went better than anticipated, Spy's mass is obviously gone, just a little snot out of his nose, nothing like before. He's able to get up, walk and move around pretty good, he did lose weight
during this adventure. Spy shows more interest in food, but the only thing I could find that he would actually eat were Paul Newman hard, organic (dog ) cookies. His first solid food in 8 days. Today
he surprised himself by chewing on his non surgical side and ate 6 little cookies! If we can get him eating anything, I'll be happy.....of course he got his goat milk/honey/sea salt/Honest Kitchen squirts too.
Day two after surgery.......Spy is moving around fairly well, able to negotiate stairs and go aside without having to lie down and rest. Today his taste buds readily accepted Foster Farm thinly sliced Turkey breast,
eating 6 thin slices in the morning & 8 and one half slices at night and some French Fries.......He enjoys his natural therapy, essential oils and TLC. Today he particularly enjoyed the Spectro Chrome light therapy
tonations. Must feel nice & warm. After Spy's dinner and going out, while I was freshening up his temporary quarters, I turned around and he was gone....he decided that he was going upstairs to get back into his normal
routine and be with his humans.... so he slept with us as usual this night! One day at a time.
Day three after surgery is starting out great, we thought his facial deformity looked slightly less last night and this morning we were sure that some of the horrible swelling had gone down considerably! He started out with 6
slices of Turkey for his morning snack and had a good short walk.

Common Dangers in Your Drinking Water
As reported in New Scientist, a comprehensive survey of U.S. drinking water reveals that your drinking water is also likely laced with a wide variety of pharmaceuticals and hormonally active chemicals. The 11 most frequently detected compounds were:
Atenolol, a beta-blocker used to treat cardiovascular disease
Atrazine, an organic herbicide banned in the European Union which has been implicated in the decline of fish stocks and in changes in animal behavior

So, What are Your Healthiest Water Options?
Your best bet for ensuring your water does not contain DBPs and various pharmaceutical agents is to filter your own water, at home, using a reverse osmosis filter.
While installing a filter to purify your drinking water is a wise decision as it will eliminate virtually all of the drugs and DBPs, it may not be enough. Your skin absorbs both water and chemicals -- as illustrated in the study on swimming pool contamination
and cancer risk mentioned above – so you could still be exposing yourself to dangerous levels of contaminants when you:
1. Shower or bathe
2. Wash your hands
3. Wash laundry
4. Rinse fruits and vegetables
5. Wash dishes, glasses, and other utensils
The biggest risk here is your shower. You can easily absorb as many toxins in one shower as you would by drinking tap water all week long.
Robert Slovak, one of the pioneers in water filtration systems shares his extensive insider knowledge about one of the more recently recognized threats discovered in your water supply -- disinfection byproducts, or DBPs.
If you have not heard of DBPs before, you need to pay close attention as it turns out that DBPs, not chlorine, are responsible for nearly all the toxic effects of chlorinated water. Chlorine by itself is
relatively harmless, but its side effects, ( not so says Happy Tails, chlorine kills enzymes, vitamins & minerals so you are drinking lifeless water) by producing DBPs, is what causes nearly all of the problems.
As it turns out, DBPs are over 10,000 times more toxic than chlorine, and out of all the other toxins and contaminations present in your water, such as fluoride and miscellaneous pharmaceutical drugs, DBPs may be the

A study published in the Journal of Environmental Sciences last year found that swimming in a chlorinated pool presented an unacceptable cancer risk.
They concluded that the cancer risk of trihalomethanes from various routes in descending order was:
1. skin exposure while swimming
2. gastro-intestinal exposure from tap water intake
3. skin exposure to tap water
4. gastro-intestinal exposure while swimming
But the cancer risk from skin exposure while swimming was over 94 percent of the total cancer risk resulting from being exposed to THMs! THMs formed in chlorinated swimming pools have also been linked to
spontaneous abortion, stillbirths and congenital malformations, even at lower levels. Happy Tails suggest swimming in cleaner rivers or lakes after knowing that they don't get chemical run off from

If you love your pet, avoid the vet who vaccinates
Vaccines have been know to cause everything including cancer; and above all, avoid commercial pet food. Feed them nothing that you wouldn't eat yourself. As for your cat, a handful of grass as often as once a day.
An animal will sometimes digest the juice and throw up the grass, which is natural. It is also good to blend in with the main meal, small amounts of vegetables, such as regular or sweet potato, broccoli, etc. Fruit juices are also beneficial.

Pretty stupid to allow any at all, as the prions can cross species and there are reports of dogs and cats being diagnosed with mad cow variants in Europe! This disease can live in soils that are frozen, and will do so for many years! So burial is stupid too, cremation is the ONLY safe disposal method.
As to what the lab animals are dosed with, and if they were finally exterminated, and didn't die of whatever was forced upon them, it is a fact that the poisons used in extermination do NOT break down in processing. If you can bear to, and really, even if it makes you ill to do so, watch the film clip on "whats in your pet food," at this site.
According to the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, proper disposal of test animals is as follows: "Infectious animal carcasses can be incinerated on-site or collected by a licensed contractor." In other words, used test animals would be cremated – if the laboratory has the expensive equipment to cremate test animals; or the 'licensed contractor' would be the area Rendering Facility, which provides the pet food industry with many ingredients. Many, many laboratories that use test
animals are University based; struggling to make ends meet. It is unlikely that many University laboratories can afford cremation of test animals. Sadly, we must assume that most University lab test animals are rendered and become part of many dog foods that your dog could eat. As an example, the University of Illinois and Oklahoma State University both allow test animal carcasses to be rendered. The University of Illinois website mentions their renderer does not pick up dogs or cats. However, all other test animals, and
the diseases and drugs in their bodies, are removed by local renderers whose end products sell to pet food manufacturers. Baylor University website states "non-hazardous carcass waste" is removed to the area landfill; however "all hazardous classified animal carcasses shall be disposed of through a contracted waste disposal vendor" – a renderer. Please take notice of the Baylor University waste protocol; non-hazardous carcass waste can be buried, but hazardous animal carcass waste

Imagine all of the waste test animals at all of the laboratories across the country, University or otherwise. Imagine all the test drugs not yet approved for use within these animal bodies. Many, many of those test animals and test drugs are rendered, along with other waste animal material (such as 4-D livestock – dead, diseased, dying, and disabled animals rejected for use in human food), and after the rendering process become ingredients in pet food. Pet food ingredients that could possibly contain a rendered
laboratory animal would be 'animal fat', 'by-product meal', 'meat and bone meal', 'meat meal' (not 'chicken meal' or 'turkey meal' or any other specific named meat meal), and 'Animal Digest'. The FDA has determined that the common pet food ingredient 'Animal Fat' to be most likely to contain a euthanizing drug, thus most likely to contain a euthanized animal. There is NO FDA information on exactly what type of euthanized animal could be in 'animal fat', nor what other drugs are in the
ingredient (and in the other above listed pet food ingredients). There is NO FDA or CVM information on the health condition of animals used in these rendered pet food ingredients, nor the research data to know the health risk to pets. The FDA, despite Federal law against this, allows diseased animals and rendered laboratory animals to become pet food ingredients.Stop and think about the thousands of animals that are euthanized by their owners because of the various incurable diseases they have, those same animals
end up as pet food. Then depending on which figures we believe, somewhere between 6 and 11 million other dogs and cats are slaughtered at shelters each year and they too end up in pet food. These numbers are artificially low because death stats are only on "adoptable" animals. In other words, if the dog is too old, too fat, too skinny, too sick, not cute enough or fails a temperament test, or exhibits unrequested barking, they are considered unadoptable and can be slaughtered without counting into those figures. They too
can end up as pet food. Is it any wonder why our animals are dying younger and younger and developing numerous diseases, particularly cancer?

Why cancer comes back following chemotherapy, radiation or surgery One of the most common problems in cancer patients who choose to undergo conventional cancer therapy is recurrence. They might
think they have beaten their cancer with chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, only to find a few years later that tumors have spread into other tissues -- usually the lungs, brain, or even the reproductive organs. Conventional medicine has not yet caught on to what's happening here, but the reason why this phenomenon occurs is quite simple:
Conventional cancer treatments only treat the symptoms of cancer (tumors or growths) and do not actually do anything to help the patient regain a level of health necessary to keep cancer in check.
A tumor is not technically a disease. It is a symptom of an underlying imbalance in the patient. Unless you treat and reverse the underlying imbalances, you will never eliminate the underlying cause of the cancer. You will continue to see more tumors and complications, even if you are able to treat the first tumors.
Think of it like this: suppose you have a dam holding up a body of water such as a lake. One day, due to poor maintenance, the dam begins to crack and water starts leaking through. In the world of conventional cancer treatment, they would say the problem is the water, and they would begin treating the water.
They would try to evaporate the water or eliminate the water from flooding the valley below. But the problem isn't the water leaking through the dam; the problem is the integrity of the dam itself. Unless you diagnose the problem with the dam and repair it, then you will never stop the leaking water.
The same is true with cancer. Unless you address the underlying integrity of the immune system and the body's self-repairing technology, all you're doing is chasing symptoms. You can treat all the cancer tumors in the world and still do nothing to actually help the cancer patient solve his or her underlying problem.
Conventional cancer treatments actually harm the patient and the patient's immune system, making it even more difficult to overcome cancer in the future. Chemotherapy harms the immune system and impairs organs such as the brain, liver, kidney and the heart. It's sort of like using TNT to blow out the water leaking through the dam.
You destroy the dam at the same time. It leaves the patient unable to stop the progression of the cancer. The real answers to cancer prevention and cure are found in nutrition, exercise, reduction of stress, and avoidance of environmental chemicals and toxins. Chemotherapy is not a cure for cancer, nor is radiation, because
both of those treatments actually cause cancer. When you poison the immune system and irradiate tissues, you create physical imbalances which in turn can create cancer. This is the simple reason why so many people who subject themselves to conventional cancer treatments find themselves battling recurring cancer years later.
Beating Cancer Gently Dr. Tullio Simoncini, the Italian oncologist, has been in the news lately. He has been healing cancer patients using sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) for some number of years now. You can learn about his work and buy his book, "Cancer Is A Fungus" in printed form at: What he's saying is that the microbe that gets into the cell and causes it to become a fermenting (cancer) cell is nothing other than candida. And treating it requires
nothing more than getting baking soda next to the area with the cancer cells and the cells die. That may be a bit over-simplified, but not much. There are some interesting videos at the web site and a lot of other information. For example, here is the list of cancers which he says he has treated successfully with the sodium bicarbonate:

Impressive list, no? His information on procedures is getting out to the true holistic physicians. Here is an excerpt from an e-mail from Dr. Dana Flavin. Dr. Flavin is a cancer doctor from Connecticut:
"Dr. Simoncini is reversing cancers with 5% solution of baking soda in the artery at the tumor. 6 days on, 6 days off. After 4 sessions the tumors are gone. Breast, pancreas, colon, brain, lung, etc. He also treats peritoneal carcinomatosus, with intra-peritoneal therapies. He has the patients rotate ¼ of a turn every 15 minutes for one hour to cover the whole area. He says it is getting rid of fungi. I think it is also adding back oxygen by pulling off
the hydrogen and adding the CO2, as well as creating an environment that is not palatable for fungi. Tumors hate oxygen and so do fungi...they said it worked better with cisplatin and guess what? Cisplatin is toxic to fungi. Isn’t this almost the most ironic thing you ever heard of? Sometimes I just smile and think how simple God has made things and how complicated we have interpreted it."
Dr. Flavin recommended another web site A friend and medical researcher who swears that magnesium chloride when applied transdermally heals skin cancer quickly.
The protocol for breast cancer and all skin cancers by Dr. Simoncini is a seven percent iodine solution applied topically. In "Survival Medicine" try using both. Another personal friend who was able to completely clear her serious fibroid breast problems with the
magnesium chloride applied transdermally.
Camelot Cancer Care A wonderful lady in Tulsa, Oklahoma is running a clinic applying the Dr. Simoncini approach to healing cancer patients. She has been trained by Dr. Simoncini during his trip to the U.S. some months ago. In fact, she and her clinic are where Dr. Simoncini refers people from the U.S. who call him in Italy with a request for treatment. - Mange and Scabies Treatment Salve
Rub a small amount of this soothing salve onto affected areas. Increase amount of shea oil for a thinner product. Fine for use on people and pets.
1 oz. carnauba wax
2 oz. Olive butter or coconut
oil
3 oz. Shea oil
1 oz. karanja or neem oil or use 1/2 oz. each oil
20 drops tea tree oil and 30 drops lemon essential oil
Combine the first 4 ingredients and melt. Add the essemtial oils to the melted mixture.
Test your salve by allowing drops to cool on a plate or spoon. Adjust the hardness using wax or oil depending upon whether you want it harder or softer.
Pour into wide mouth containers. Cool quickly to prevent crystal formation.
